We graded Ch.2 tests
today. Most were good, but the main point to reinforce with the
kids is that several took almost 3 periods to finish a test that
students used to finish in one period. At high school, the
advanced math teachers will not give extended time to finish tests.
Students must learn to manage their time during a test to complete the
easier problems first to build confidence, then attack the tougher
problems.
We start Ch. 3 on equations tomorrow

The Chapter 2 test scores
will not be entered into the gradebook. There were enough kids will
various errors that we must review these and assess again.
Starting tomorrow, we
will build a script for all essential skills for Ch.2, and the kids will
begin to create model problems from each skill as a script they can
follow. With the use of a camera grant I received, the kids can
record themselves (only hand doing work and their voices narrating)
showing how they solved the various skills of the chapter. I will
post a template for this movie script tomorrow. They students will
be scored on their performance to explain the how and why of each key
concept. This will be worth a test grade. The movie making
process will allow the kids to master the essential skills so when I
re-test the chapter 2, they will show the necessary growth for me to
move further into Ch. 3.
