We took a pop quiz
today on mode, median, range, and mean. Class averages between 3
classes were 80ish %. Of the problems missed, 90% of kids who
missed could not add, subtract, or divide properly. This is
clearly becoming an issue. 10% of mistakes were students who did not
prepare for quiz by studying notes. Neither is acceptable.
Re-quiz for all classes tomorrow.

Students worked on script for movies that will be
created in class by students to reinforce all essential skills in
Chapter 1. Students worked in class for at least 10-15 minutes on
script. Please have them work for 30 minutes max tonight. If
they are not finished, we will give additional time tomorrow. If
they are ready, we will begin the movie making process.
Ch. 1 test on Monday,
Oct. 24th. Movie making will take place over next 2 days or so
with hopefully time to watch some of the creations before the test.
If I have to move the test to Tuesday, I will let you all know.
These movies
do not show any part of the student except his/her hand writing out the
various math problems and narrating out loud how and why they solved the
problem in that fashion. These movies will only be shown in class as
reinforcement tool. Permission slips to post movies to web will be
sent if the movies turn out as good as I hope they do.

were docked 2 points per assignment from their test grade, and they did

This behavior is a
reflection of what all Castle teachers are seeing in our classes.
We held a class meeting with the whole house of 100 kids today to
address the under-achieving behavior of some of the students.
